I'm Amber, the owner of Lumisage. I'm a certified wellness coach, tai chi instructor, and somatic guide who loves helping people build stronger, kinder, and more meaningful relationships with their bodies.

I have a contagious passion for this work, and it spills out and around me. A fitting connection to my business name which combines "light" and "wisdom" together.

Take a look around and ask any questions you have. I'm happy you're here!

Frequently asked questions

A slow, continuous set of movements that came out of Chinese martial arts and got adapted for health. It looks gentle because it is. It is also harder than it looks, which is most of the fun. You are learning to move your whole body as one connected thing instead of a pile of parts.

Unlike other fitness classes like yoga, tai chi builds upon each other and classes are grouped in a series of 9 classes.

No. Tai chi works with the body you brought today. Low impact, no floor work, nothing bouncy. Most of what we do can be done seated if standing is not available to you.

Wear:

  • Loose, comfortable clothing

  • Bare feet or shoes with a low, flat sole

Room to take one step in each direction

A device propped so I can see your whole body. That last one matters more than people expect. If I cannot see your feet, I cannot help your feet.

"Soma" is the Greek word for body. It's getting you better acquainted with the feelings and emotions and how it shows up in your body. The exercises are small movements, slow, very little effort.

No. It is movement education. I do not diagnose or treat anything, and I will say so plainly when something belongs with your doctor or a physical therapist instead.

Stretching pulls on tissue. Somatics talks to the nervous system that is holding the tissue. If a muscle is tight because your body is bracing, you can stretch it every morning and it will be tight again by lunch.

A structured conversation pointed at something you actually want to change. I ask questions that are harder than they sound, you do the thinking, and we build the next real step from what surfaces.

Therapy tends to work with the past, with diagnosis and healing. Coaching works forward from where you are standing now. I hold an ICF ACC credential and I am not a licensed mental health provider. If what you are carrying belongs in therapy, I will tell you, and I will help you find someone good.

Tai chi and wellness coaching are 1 hour sessions.

Somatic appointments are typically 45 minutes.
